Housing in Times of Crisis (2025)
What does it mean to talk about housing in a context where housing policy is increasingly shaped by market logic and less by care and solidarity? What forms of housing can respond to overlapping crises in fair and sustainable ways?
Bilingual publication Housing in Times of Crisis (2025) brings together essays, conversations, mappings and visual materials that explore housing across Europe in a moment of environmental, economic and social instability. Emerging from Never Never School 2023 and Košice—a city shaped by intersecting borders, experiences of displacement and everyday struggles with housing affordability—it reflects on the tensions between solidarity and structural failure that became visible during the arrival of people fleeing Ukraine in 2022.
The contributions connect local experiences from Slovakia with a broader European context. They trace how climate crisis, market failures and migration materialise in everyday housing situations, while also opening space for new alliances, imaginaries and practices grounded in care and collective responsibility.
Compendium on caring urban design (2022, in Slovak)
What is a caring city? What does caring mean?
Publication Put on Your Caring Hat (2022, in Slovak) shows through stories, essays, an interview, photographs, a video and a game manual the different aspects of caring for places. It is based on workshops, interventions and lectures of Never Never School 2021, which were situated in various places in Košice. You will therefore find local themes, but the care approaches presented are also applicable beyond the borders of this city and the summer school.
A collection of essays on Košice housing estates and the 'post-socialist' city (2021, in English)
We are publishing a shorter collection of essays, utopias and other contributions – Urban Dialogue with the Post-Socialist City (2021).
The essays are based on our observation of the prefabricated housing estate Ťahanovce in Košice during the pilot year of Never Never School 2018. How can housing estates be places to live and not just places to sleep? How do they respond to changing policies and economic systems? Can new utopias respond meaningfully to old ones?
